The GNRC South Asia has initiated various activities with children, mostly adolescents to grow in a peaceful, safe and enabling environment, and to create spaces for their voices to be heard and considered in all forums of society . At the same, it aims to devekio them to become activists to ensure peaceful coexistence in their societies, communities and neighborhoods, which will ensure that social justice, equality, respect and equal opportunities for all, regardless of class, colour, creed or tribe, are attained.
In 2008, the GNRC in South Asia organised an Ethics Promoting Campaign (EPC) under the theme “walking together”, planned for 100 days organizing at least 1,000 activities covering 10,000 children in the South Asia (SA) region. The EPC was based on previous regional and global experience in promoting ethics education.
As a result activities in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka were carried out during December 2007 and May 2008.
In India, 300 children from 25 local government and private schools came together in Coimbatore to learn and spread the message of universal brothehood and unity. The participants reflected about problems in their schools and came up with ideas to transform those problems. Through story telling children express the importance of reconciliation and they reflected on the need to respond to the needs of their societies.
In Nepal, workshops on creative writing and sprituality were held for 90 children. They wrote poems and stories related to the values of the Manual. Interreligious visits were also part of the ethics education campaign in Nepal, where children had the opportunity to learn about others' beliefs.
In Sri Lanka, children's camps were held in Hambanthota, Trincomalee, Wellawaya and Ratnapura. Through sports and recreation, aesthetic activities and following the modules of Learning to Live Together, more than 500 children reflected about respect, empathy, reconciliation and responsibility.
The GNRC in South Asia is currently involved in the creation of 10 Youth for Peace Groups to continue empowering children to bring about the changes they want to see in their socities and spreading the message of peace and mutal respect and understanding.
